How to Measure Your Steering Wheel
Learn how to measure your steering wheel diameter and grip circumference accurately using a measuring tape or paper strip. Follow the steps below and record your measurements before sending them to our team.
1. What You'll Need
- Flexible measuring tape
- Ruler
- Strip of firm paper (optional)
- Phone or camera for measurement photos
Tip: Record all grip measurements in centimeters (cm) or millimeters (mm).
2. Measure Your Steering Wheel Diameter

Measure straight across the steering wheel through its center, from one outside edge of the rim to the opposite outside edge.
- Position a ruler or measuring tape across the widest part of the wheel.
- Measure from outer edge to outer edge.
- Record the result in inches or centimeters.
Example: 15 inches (38.1 cm).
3. Measure the Steering Wheel Grip Circumference

Grip circumference is the distance around the thickness of the steering wheel rim, not around the entire steering wheel.
- Place the 0 cm mark of a flexible measuring tape against the rim.
- Wrap the tape completely around the rim, keeping it flat and snug without pulling too tightly.
- Read the measurement where the tape overlaps the 0 cm mark.
- Record the result in centimeters (cm), and repeat at any additional positions requested by our team.
Example: 11.0 cm (110 mm).
Tip: Do not twist the tape or compress the steering wheel surface.
4. No Flexible Tape? Use a Paper Strip

- Wrap a strip of firm paper completely around the steering wheel rim.
- Mark the exact point where the paper overlaps its starting end.
- Remove the paper and lay it flat.
- Align the starting end with the 0 mark on a ruler.
- Read and record the distance from the starting end to the marked point.
Tip: Avoid soft tissue or stretchy materials, which can cause inaccurate measurements.
5. Measure at the Points Requested by Our Team

Example diagram only: The A, B, and C locations shown above are examples, not required measurement points for every steering wheel.
Different steering wheels may require measurements at more locations or at different positions. If additional measurements are needed, our support team will contact you with the exact points to measure and any vehicle-specific instructions.
- Follow the measurement points provided by our support team, rather than relying on the example diagram.
- Measure the grip circumference at each requested point using the methods above.
- Label each result clearly and record the measurements in centimeters (cm).
- Include clear photos showing the tape position when requested.
Important: Do not assume that A, B, and C—or the positions shown in this example—apply to your steering wheel. Our team will confirm which locations you need to measure.
Tips for Accurate Measurements
- Measure over the steering wheel's existing covering.
- Keep the tape snug without compressing the surface.
- Double-check each result and use consistent units.
- Photograph the tape position so our team can verify the location.
